Nafeesa Khan of ICNA Relief , Canada, greeting a girl after handing over a cheque for ₹14,000 atBegumpet

As many as 340 orphan children were awarded ₹14,000 per annum as assistance for their education here on Saturday. The financial aid was offered by ICNA Relief Canada, a non-governmental organisation, at a function organised by Foundation for Economic and Educational Development (FEED), Hyderabad.

The funds for financing education came from the money collected as part of Zakat, an Islamic tradition of charity. The FEED has been helping financially-disadvantaged children, providing 12,000 such children with scholarships to further their education. While there is no age limit for receiving the financial aid, children who are between class I and X are preferred.
